I work in collaboration with English departments and other teachers in the humanities to strengthen both practice and vision:

Practice:

  • Developing and integrating a robust poetry teaching practice

  • Designing theme-based, inquiry-driven courses

  • Cultivating community and student connoisseurship* by distributing discourse and expertise

  • Developing rigorous and authentic ways to measure student progress and outcomes

  • Building collaborative relationships with students and families

  • Curating content and developing curricula

Vision:

  • Establishing a departmental mission statement

  • Clarifying and reinvigorating teacher identity, mission, and practice

  • Contributing to research on friendship studies, teaching poetry, and mindfulness and the writing process

  • Reflecting on and filling gaps in our own teacher education

  • Working effectively with student teachers, and building a legacy for the next generation
