Students’ inner lives matter, and cultivating wisdom is important.
School can be a place of growth, inquiry, community and collaboration; it should not be something to be “gotten through.”
The writing/literature classroom is uniquely situated to attend to young adults’ inclination toward deep inquiry and meaning making.
Students do better when they’re agents in their own schooling.
Teachers do better when they’re regarded as scholars and decision-makers within their academic community.

I write (mostly essays) about teaching practice, parenting, music, ADHD in and out of the classroom, teaching as a spiritual practice, teaching poetry, and using literature to cultivate student wisdom. I also write creative non-fiction.
